The icebreaker Laura Bassi - a photo on Flickriver

            The icebreaker Laura Bassi in the gulf of "her" Trieste. The Laura Bassi is a research vessel, used for scientific activity and logistical support for Italian Antarctic explorations. In the last mission it reached the southernmost point ever touched in navigation.
The ship was named "Laura Bassi" in honor of the Italian physicist and academic, who lived from 1711 to 1778, who was the second woman graduate in Italy, the first to embark on an academic and scientific career, and the first woman in the world to get a university professorship.

La rompighiaccio Laura Bassi nel golfo della "sua" Trieste. La Laura Bassi è una nave oceanografica, utilizzata per l'attività scientifica e il supporto logistico alle esplorazioni antartiche italiane. Nell'ultima missione ha raggiunto il punto più a Sud mai toccato in navigazione.
La nave è stata chiamata “Laura Bassi” in onore della fisica e accademica italiana, vissuta dal 1711 al 1778, che fu la seconda donna laureata d'Italia, la prima ad intraprendere una carriera accademica e scientifica, e la prima donna al mondo ad ottenere una cattedra universitaria.
