개구리 울음소리가 반짝이는 별들이라고 느낀 나의 감각은
왜 그렇게 뒤죽박죽이었을까.
그렇지만 밤하늘에서 쏟아질 듯이 반짝이고 있는 별들을 보고 개구리의 울음소리가 귀에 들려오는 듯했었던 것은 아니다.
별들을 보고 있으면 나는 나와 어느 별과 그리고 그 별과 또 다른 별들 사이의 안타까운 거리가,
과학책에서 배운 바로써가 아니라, 마치 나의 눈이 점점 정확해져 가고 있는 듯이, 나의 시력에 뚜렷하게 보여 오는 것이다.
나는 그 도달할 길 없는 거리를 보는 데 홀려서
멍하니 서 있다가 그 순간 속에서 그대로 가슴이 터져 버리는 것 같았었다.
왜 그렇게 못 견디어했을까.
별이 무수히 반짝이는 밤하늘을 보고 있던 옛날
나는 왜 그렇게 분해서 못 견디어했을까.
