History Of A Ride

            This is a photo I took over 10 years ago during a trip to San Francisco.  I've wanted to post this for a long time, despite its not being the sharpest photo, I come back to it for a few reasons.  The main thing of interest to me is the trail of the ride left behind by the surfboard's fin. The shot is 1/800th of a second ( so no long exposure effect) and I was surprised that the water would maintain the surfboard's impression so well.  I also like how the surfers turn at the top of the wave creates a sort of wave within a wave.  You can see how the rider is gauging the movement of the wave with his right hand, as well as perhaps using it to steady himself.  Finally, though you could easily assume that this captures the moment the surfer is falling, he isn't - he's just about to head back down the wave.
