37688 'Great Rocks' at 'Twilight' in Llandudno - 19.5.2022

This 'Unexpected Bonus' forms the second of a week's 'Trilogy Pairing' of Class 37's with railtours seen in North Wales. My previous posting of 'The Cambrian Coast Express' of Friday 13th May being the first. 

Pictured here at 9.30pm on Thursday 19th May 2022 in Llandudno Station, Conwy, North Wales sees Class 37/6 (English Electric Type 3) 'Great Rocks' resting at the head of a 'Private Charter Railtour'during an overnight stopover after travelling down from Scotland. In a 'Top and Tail' combination it's paired with another English Electric Type 3 D6817 in British Railways (BR) Green Livery, owned by Locomotive Services Ltd (LSL), at the rear. 

37688 entered service with BR as D6905 in November 1963. January 1973 saw it intially re-numbered 37205 under the TOPS scheme and again re-numbered 37688 in 1986 following rebuilding as a Class 37/6. In later years it saw service with rail freight operator Direct Rail Services (DRS) before being sold by DRS in February 2017 to D05 Preservation Ltd - whereupon it was repainted from DRS Livery into Trainload Construction Livery renamed 'Great Rocks' with Buxton TMD depot plaques and ICI crests being fitted - as pictured. 

In January 2020 LSL acquired it on a long term lease.

LSL is the UK's most recent railtour operator, owned by Jeremy Hosking a leading ralway preservationist, being granted a licence in August 2017 to operate mainline trains in the UK using heritage steam, diesel and electric locos with support from associated companies such as Saphos Trains and trusts.
