... à Auxerre au bord de l'Yonne , capitale de la basse Bourgogne dans le département de l'Yonne , dont elle est le chef lieu ; à 169 km au sud Est de Paris, 37.800 habitants. Le vignoble auxerrois, les vignobles AOC de Chablis est à quelques kilomètres de la ville. Elle fut ravagée par Attila au 4 ème siècle. Sous les rois mérovingiens, elle fut gouvernée par les Comtes, qui se rendirent héréditaires au 10 ème siècle . En 838 l'Auxerrois fut donné à Charles, fils de Louis le Pieux. Au 9 ème siècle, les écoles d'Auxerre étaient célèbres, Héribald les dirigeait. Héric et Rémi sont parmi les plus fameux écrivains qui en sont sortis; Rémi restaura l'école de Reims .
