Grimwith Reservoir - Lone Tree - a photo on Flickriver

            Despite to blue sky and sunlight it was a bitterly cold day with a blustery wind blowing along the reservoir. Patches of the previous days snow showers can be seen especially on the moor tops

The blue of the water I think comes from the depth of the reservoir as much of the water running into the reservoir is peaty or discoloured from ore deposits The out flow is the River Dibb

Grimwith House (now holiday cottages) can be seen in the distance

It is a wild and lonely place to walk on the moors around the beautiful Grimwith Reservoir which has a good wide path (pronounced Grim'ath) There is a sailing club on the reservoir just visible on the far bank to the right

Grimwith Reservoir is located in the Yorkshire Dales (Craven District) in North Yorkshire, England between Pateley Bridge and Grassington

The original reservoir was built in 1864 by the Bradford Corporation. This involved the abandonment of the hamlets of Grimwith and Gate Up, which would be flooded as part of the reservoir. Following an agreement made in 1970 the size of the reservoir was increased by seven times and the water level was raised by 66 feet.
