Zeiss Ikon AG Dresden - Nettar 515 1937 bis 1945

Die Aufnahme meiner Nettar 515 erfolgte mit einer Canon G12

Die Zeiss Ikon Nettar 515 kam 1937 in den Handel. Es handelt sich um eine Mittelformat-Faltkamera für 120er Rollfilme. Aus meiner Sicht ist das Format besonders interessant, weil es mit seinen 6 x 4,5 cm zwischen Kleinbild und dem 6 x 6 Format liegt.

Die langjährige Nettar-Produktreihe wurde von Zeiss-Ikon als preiswertere Variante zu deren Ikonta Luxusmodellen angeboten. Ein Vergleich mit der heute verbreiteten Budget-Klasse wäre aber falsch. Die Nettars unterscheiden sich von den Ikontas lediglich durch den eingeprägten Namen, sowie Verschluss und Objektiv.

Bei Kameras, die mittlerweile 90 Jahre alt sind, dürften die letzten beiden Aspekte für den fotografischen Einsatz keine Rolle mehr spielen. Wohl aber die hervorragende Fertigungsqualität und diesbezüglich gibt es keinen Unterschied zwischen Nettar und Ikonta.

einen interessanten Erfahrungsbericht über seine Nettar 515 geschrieben. Darin vergleicht er anhand damaliger Werbeanzeigen den Kaufpreis einer Nettar mit dem einer Ikonta. Demnach hätte sich 2016 ein inflationsbedingter Kaufpreis für die Nettar (mit Nettar f/4.5 und Klio Verschluss) in Höhe von ca. 420 USD ergeben und ca. 850 USD für eine Ikonta (mit 4.5 Tessar und Compur-Verschluss).
Damit wird aber auch deutlich, in welcher Liga damals ein Tessar von Carl Zeiss und ein Compurverschluss der Friedrich Deckel AG spielten. Der Einbau dieser beiden Komponenten anstelle von Nettar und Klio verdoppelte den Verkaufpreis.

The Zeiss Ikon Nettar 515 came on the market in 1937. It is a medium format folding camera for 120 roll films. From my point of view, the format is especially interesting, because with its 6 x 4.5 cm it lies between 35mm and the 6 x 6 format.

The long-standing Nettar product line was offered by Zeiss-Ikon as a cheaper version to their Ikonta luxury models. However, a comparison with the budget class that is widespread today would be wrong. The Nettars differ from the Ikontas only in the embossed name, as well as shutter and lens.

With cameras that are now 90 years old, the last two aspects should no longer play a role for photographic use. However, the excellent manufacturing quality is important and in this respect there is no difference between Nettar and Ikonta.

wrote an interesting field report about his Nettar 515. In it he compares the purchase price of a Nettar with that of an Ikonta on the basis of advertisements at that time. According to this, in 2016 an inflation-related purchase price for the Nettar (with Nettar f/4.5 and Klio closure) would have been approx. 420 USD and approx. 850 USD for an Ikonta (with 4.5 Tessar and Compur closure).
This also shows in which league a Tessar from Carl Zeiss and a Compur closure from Friedrich Deckel AG were playing. The installation of these two components instead of Nettar and Klio doubled the sales price.
