Pano On the Cabezon Road to the HooDoo Trailhead, Ojito Wilderness, Sandoval County, New Mexico USA

            Take off west from US Rt. 550, two miles south of San Ysidro, on unpaved County Road 906, known as the Cabezon Road, and after 13 miles you are at two Ojito trailheads – the Seismosaurus Site Trailhead and the Hoodoo Trailhead.  The first is a hike to the spot where in 1991, major excavations were carried out on a Diplodocus (very large, late Jurasic sauropod) fossil discovered by hikers in 1979.  The Hoodoo Trailhead is the take off point to several unique rock formations.  

The badlands here include lovely desert and mesa landscapes and it’s easy to forget this is just less than 25 miles north of the City of Albuquerque.

I stopped on the Cabezon Road between the two trailheads and this image is of the mesa just to the north of the Seismosaurus site.  I liked the image as the mesa is imposing for sure but the large cholla cactus in the center is starting to bloom and the Junipers and Pinon were lovely as well.  I’ll go back in May when it’s hopefully flowering.  This image is also three sets of seven exposure brackets, each with a different point of focus; near to far – more fun with the D850!
