FRA Inspection Car

            Riding right behind the locomotives, DOTX 221 is riding across the country on the eastbound Sunset Limited, seen here at Chaney Jct in Houston. This inspection car is part of the FRA's ATIP (Automated Track Inspection Program), which sends the car all around the country collecting data on track geometry to hopefully catch issues before they cause problems. The railcar itself, prior to its current PRR-like paint scheme, was built in 1954 for CN as a buffet-lounge car called "Cape Brule".
