Named for the lines of scales following the veins under the hindwings, and easy to recognise with its wings closed.  The upperside resmbles that of the Small Withe although the veins are more prominent, especially in summer insects,  Flies April - October in gardens and many other open habitats, although in the north and west of the British Isles it is found mainly in areas of damp grassland,

Larval Foodplant - Garlic Mustard ( Alliaria petiolata ) and other wild cabbage family members,

Daffodils are botanically known as narcissus, They appeal to everyone with their bright promise of spring and the golden sunshine of summer to come, The varieties are bewildering and the genus is classified into twelve divisions, All daffodils are fragrant but the sweetest smelling come from the jonquil, tazetta and poeticus groups with smaller, less showy, flowers often borne in clusters on the stem, It is important not to cut daffodils down before the foliage has died away as this will weaken the bulbs, If they are not planted deeply enough or cut down too soon they may well be 'blind' the following year, All daffodils should be dead-headed after flowering and thet benefit from an application of liquid fertiliser to the leaves after the flowers have died, They will flourish in all soils and like sun or light shade but they do best in fertile well-drained soil,.
