Flickriver

            The waterfall gets all the attention at Tanyard Creek, but the Cascades below it are my favorite. 

Standing here, barely removed from suburban sprawl, one can feel transported away. You can feel the Landvættir (land wihts, wights, or spirits) stirring, pulling you back into their embrace. Birdsong becomes clear and distinct. Squirrels play and collect food for the winter. Meanwhile, the water roars down the steps as if to represent the implacable march of time. You have answered the great outdoors call, and now nature repays you with wonder and health. Isn't it really quite magical, just taking a hike?
