Grenzüberschreitender Verkehr - a photo on Flickriver

            Die Strecke Marktredwitz - Cheb ist geprägt vom grenzüberschreitenden Personen- und Güterverkehr. Alle zwei Stunden verbindet eine Einheit der Baureihe 612 die tschechische Stadt Cheb mit Nürnberg. Um eine Stunde versetzt verbindet die Oberpfalzbahn Marktredwitz mit Hof mit einem "Umweg" über Tschechien. Am 28. Juli 2019 lockten mich vereinzelte Elbtalumleiter von Metrans an die eingleisige Hauptbahn. Aufgrund der Eingleisigkeit ist der Verkehr auf der Strecke aber doch deutlich eingeschränkt. Kreuzungsmöglichkeiten bieten nur noch der Bahnhof Arzberg und der Grenzbahnhof Schirnding. Neben einigen Metranszügen zeigte sich an diesem Tag auch 223 010 von Beacon Rail die im Schlepp 193 821 der SETG und einen langen Holzzug nach Wiesau brachten. 193 821 brachte mit ihrer tschechischen Zulassung den Zug elektrisch bis Cheb ehe es von dort mit Diesel über die Grenze ging. Während man sich trotz Elbtalumleiter an der Strecke die Beine in den Bauch stand, fuhren auf der benachbarten B303 fortlaufend eine ganze Armada an nicht zu überhörenden LKW's. Während man die B303 fortlaufend ausbaut um dem LKW-Verkehr Herr zu werden ist die Bahnstrecke auf deutscher Seite von Neuinvestitionen verschont geblieben. Auf tschechischer Seite ist die Strecke auf 160 km/h ausgebaut - ein Abkommen für den grenzüberschreitenden elektrifizerten Ausbau ist ausgehandelt, wird aber von deutscher Seite nicht angegangen. Border-crossing railway traffic

The route Marktredwitz - Cheb is mainly used for border crossing railway traffic. Every other hour a class 612 connects Cheb in the Czech Republic with Nuremberg. With one hour offset the Oberpfalzbahn connects Marktredwitz with Hof making a detour to the city Cheb. On the 28th of July 2019 some detoured freight trains from Metrans brought me to the single tracked route. Because of the single track the freight traffic is limited. Opportunities to cross are just in the stations of Arzberg and the border station Schirnding. Next to some Metrans container freight trains 223 010 by Beacon Rail and 193 821 by SETG were pulling an wood loaded train heading to Wiesau. 193 821 with a czech admission brought the train with electric traction to Cheb where the diesel locomotive continued the journey accross the border. Although additional detour trains were running you had to bring a lot of patience. Meanwhile a lot of loud trucks were driving on the neighbouring  federal highway B303. Whereas the street is constantly disassembling, no investments are made in the railway tracks on the german side. The czech part of the railway route is totally disassemled - trains can run 160 km/h here. Even though an investment aggrement between Germany and Czech Republic exists, still nothing has happend.
