Round the curve with the Carless tanks 20240520--087

66784 Keighley & Worth Valley Railway approaches Ely Dock Jn., working 6F41 16.30 Harwich Refinery (Carless Solvents) - Wellingborough Up TC. [Pole, 3/6 (~4m)]

It was assumed these ten tank wagons, normally used on the flow between North Walsham and Harwich, were heading for Wellingborough for maintenance; replacing wheelsets had been suggested.

I'd originally intended chasing 1Q90 after photographing it at Ely North Jn., its layover at Ely giving time to get further south. However, when I spotted this, timed perfectly for the sun angle here, and guessed it would be Carless tanks, I changed my plans and stayed in the Ely area. I'd done this shot before, with the four-weekly Friday evening NRIM monitoring train (going away from the camera), but on that occasion I used a longer lens (77mm) and therefore included slightly less of the surroundings. I'd also extended the pole by just enough to see over the bridge parapet, but this time I decided to go a little higher - although not any higher than this because there were occasional gusts of wind, especially when lorries went past me! I am, of course, stood on the Ely Southern Bypass bridge - and on this side there isn't much space at the side of the road!
