Surrounded by trees, Calle de la Epoca, Antigua Colonia de la Prensa, Carabanchel, Madrid

            Designed around 1910, and built between 1913 and 1916 in the Modernist style of the time, this "colony" of houses was intended as a holiday resort for members of the newspaper trade, hence its name. The area went through  a hazardous time resulting in a lot of damage, during the Spanish Civil War ( Carabanchel was the scene of a lot of fighting), then in later years many of the buildings fell into disuse and were later demolished. In the 1990s it was declared of national interest, but by then only a few of the original buildings remained. On Jan 1st 2019  (since  then  I 've  been  back  several  times) I walked around here with a friend who lives nearby and took photos of buildings I found interesting or attractive. I will add extra information that I find out when I can!
