            Mrs Wetherby (right) and Mrs Bartlett (middle) wouldn't dream of carrying those bags and boxes themselves. 

Mrs W: How good of your son, young mister Bartlett to lend us a hand.

Mrs B:  Oh he doesn't mind at all. Do you Bobby dearie? 

Mr B. Bartlett:  Not at all mummy.

Mrs W:  So well mannered. 

Mrs B:  He has his eye set on your daughter Alice, don't you know. That's why he's on his best behaviour. 

Mrs W:  *cooing with delight* Goodness! 

Mr B. Bartlett:  *blushing* Mother! 

Mrs B:  There now Bobby dearie, don't drop that vase. Boys are so skittish nowadays. I told him to ask her out and he almost fainted. 

Mrs W: Oh I don't blame him the least! Girls are wicked... not my sweet Alice of course, but did you see that girl we just passed? Her mini skirt... What are the sixties coming to?

Mrs B: Most disconcerting. My Bobby boy doesn't fall for preposterous attempts like that. Do you Bobby dearie? 

Mr B. Bartlett: *chocked* Upon my word! 

Mr Bobby Dearie Bartlett really wouldn't fall for "preposterous attempts" like that. He was born a gentleman. Or how his wicked mother put it, he was skittish.
