Orthetrum cancellatum (Linnaeus 1758. Macho. Male

            Estamos ante un macho inmaduro o joven de Orthetrum cancellatum. Si comparamos con la hembra veremos que las tonalidades son casi idénticas. ¿Las diferencias? Los apéndices anales del macho son tres, dos en paralelo y uno bajo, son más largos que en la hembra y convergen. Lógicamente en el aparato reproductor está la diferencia más evidente y en este caso se trata de una particularidad única en el mundo animal y es que los machos de los Odonatos tienen el aparato reproductor dividido en su localización. A la altura del segundo segmento, en la cara ventral podemos observar una protuberancia, la he señalado, es la genitalia secundaria (lo que para nosotros sería el pene); mientras en la cara ventral y a la altura del octavo/noveno segmento tendrá la genitalia primaria, (lo que para nosotros serían los testículos), no se aprecian.

We are facing an immature or young male of Orthetrum cancellatum. If we compare with the female we will see that the tonalities are almost identical. The differences? The anal appendages of the male are three, two in parallel and one low, are longer than in the female and converge. Logically in the reproductive system is the most obvious difference and in this case it is a unique feature in the animal world and is that the males of the Odonatos have the reproductive system divided in its location. At the height of the second segment, on the ventral side we can see a protuberance, I have indicated it, it is the secondary genitalia (what for us would be the penis); while in the ventral side and at the height of the eighth / ninth segment will have the primary genitalia, (which for us would be the testicles), are not appreciated.
