Bufotes virides (LAURENTI, 1768) - European green toad - Wechselkröte

            Slowly, but steadily, my idead of creating a calender with pictures of animals protected by the appendix IV of the flora-fauna-habitat directive comes true. Yesterday was the first time I saw a living European green toad. To me this is our most beautiful native toad species. The german name 'Wechselkröte', whice means changing toad, refers to it's ability to change colour accordingly to the sourrounding light and environment. But this is only possible up to a certain point. It's not like an octopus.

So langsam wird verwirklicht sich meine Idee für einen Kalender mit geschützten Tieren nach Anhang IV der FFH-Liste. Gestern habe ich zum ersten Mal eine lebende Wechselkröte gesehen. Meiner Meinung nach die schönste heimische Krötenart. Der Name stammt übrigens von ihrer Fähigkeit ihr Muster der Umgebung und den Lichtverhältnissen bis zu einem gewissen Grad anzupassen.
