Walkerville - Cornish double gabled cottage c 1854. Built by John Walton. South Australia

            Plaque on the front of this cottage reads:-
“Town of Walkerville
The Council of the Town of Walkerville considers this building to be of historical significance.
It is a traditional Cornish double gabled cottage and was built circa 1854 by John Walton who came to S A on the “Emily” in 1849 and established a brickyard in this vicinity.
His descendants occupied the cottage until 1974”

Rate assessments confirm that John Walton owned a 5 room house with a cellar in 1858 in this vicinity. 
The brickyard was located on the opposite side of the street to this cottage. [Ref: Walkerville Local Heritage Place]
