            Nailsworth was the scene in the 1880s of the first work of the Salvation Army, which started in Australia with a service in Adelaide's Botanic Gardens. The corps was then known as Nailsworth and its members were called Nailsworth Knights. The first hall was built by voluntary labour in Stevenson Street and replaced by another on the same land in 1956. The present hall in Burwood Ave was opened when the name of the corps was changed from Nailsworth to Prospect. In the Easter of 1941 an officers' quarters was opened in Stevenson Street with the addition of a youth hall in 1963. [Ref: Prospecter 1-10-1980]

NEW SALVATION BARRACKS AT NAILSWORTH
Saturday, November 14, will be remembered as a red-letter day among the members and friends of the Salvation Army in Nailsworth and district, as on it were opened new "barracks" for the local corps by Major Howard, a gentleman who, with Colonel Ballington Booth, has come from England for the purpose of reviewing and reviving the members of the Army in Australia. The barracks, which involved an outlay of about £350, are situated about a mile out of North Adelaide, in the middle of a large piece of land on the eastern side of the main road. The building is of brick and is entirely destitute of architectural adornment.

Saturday afternoon a tea meeting was held and was largely attended. This over, the inevitable brass band, comprising twelve instruments, paraded the streets, followed by a crowd of soldiers singing hymns and shouting hallelujahs, until a motley tribe of persons moved by curiosity had been attracted, and then they returned to the barracks.

The body of the hall was crowded with an interested audience of all ages and appearances. The proceedings opened with a hymn, in the rendering of which the instruments of brass and the congregation took part alternately. 

Major Thurman stated that this was the thirty-eighth building opened by the Army in South Australia. [Ref: Evening Journal 17-11-1884]

A commencement is to be made at once with the new hall at Nailsworth. One of the army foremen is on the spot, so in a very short time everything will be well in hand. [Ref: Daily Herald 17-1-1914]
