            I recently discovered that the architect Sir Charles Lanyon (designer of many iconic buildings in Belfast) was also responsible for a great many, much more humble structures in Northern Ireland.  

He designed more than 50 churches!  This is one of them: St Columba's Church, Raloo Parish, in the village of Gleno, County Antrim.

It was built in 1842 "on the site of Miss McClaverty’s cottage", using rough-hewn basalt, with quoins at all corners, wide but shallow breakfronts at each end, with a decorative campanile over the west gable, and a small porch attached to the centre of the south wall.
