D U T Y

            The Custom House was built when Belfast became one of the great industrial and trading centres of the Victorian United Kingdom.  Only London and Liverpool collected more duty from their port than Belfast did.

Sir Charles Lanyon designed the Custom House in 1857. The writer Anthony Trollope was employed here before finding fame.
