Pride of the Ood

            Regular listeners will know of my dislike of any ex BR Class 47 or 57 (if we really have to...) which has at some stage in their life been "hacked about" or interfered with in any way to spoil their sacred shape and leaves them resembling the alien race The Ood from Dr Who (2006 onwards).

I like my 47s as God (and Brush) intended, not like 57309, pictured here, I know the reasons for such conversions (which happened in the years I was away from the rail scene doing adult things) - Dellner couplings, adapter cables, pressure switches, electricity pickups blah, blah, blah - and I don't care - ruined!! And while we're on the subject, what's with the chequer-plate on the doors.

While I have your attention (I do have your attention don't I Doctor?) - lets dig a bit deeper into my Psychosis and explore the history of this locomotive in reverse order - 57309 'Pride of Crewe', DRS livery (not too bad), 57309 'Brains' (what?, good grief) Virgin livery (nasty), 47806 Stripy Intercity bird thing (no, not for me), 47651 BR large logo (great on 50s, not bad on 56s but not on 47s, no, not having it), 47254 (BR Monastral Blue - at last, that's better, that's perfect!), D1931 (Green, not interested). I think we've found the sweet-spot - if everything went back to 1980 - 86 (maybe we do need Dr Who after all) in BR Blue and no stupid renumbering just the TOPS allocated numbers from 1974 onwards as nature intended (651, 896 - what was wrong with good old BBR allocated 254?) - lovely.

In the employ of Direct Rail Services, 57309 Pride of Crewe stabled at Stafford station between duties.

Of note to the right of the image is Stafford Railway Station South Car Park - opened in 2010, the parking structure has parking for 467 cars and was, get this, runner-up in the 2011 South Staffs Car Park of the Year - medium sized multi-storey sub-sector - and again in 2014! High praise indeed - in your face The Friary multi-storey in Lichfield!!
