As a Crow, not like a Chicken - a photo on Flickriver

            Ex GWR Castle Class locomotive 5029 Nunney Castle passes Bunns lane near Frome with the Weymouth Seaside Express excursion. 

This location is as close 'as the Crow flies' to it's namesake, Nunney's 14th century castle in the Somerset village of the same name* as is possible to get on the rails.

Sadly the locomotive has not turned a wheel on the rail network since 2015 when it was moved to Crewe to wait repairs which has become a protracted affair, better news is that the latest estimate for completion of work and return to steam is summer 2024.

The idiom 'as the Crow flies' indicates a distance between two points measured by the shortest (straightest) route, as Crows are considered intelligent birds it is assumed that they fly straight towards the nearest food source, this trait is diametrically opposed to the method employed by their cousins the Headless Chickens.
 
*and incidentally where my Parents and Paternal Grandfather are buried in the graveyard of the 12th century church with a view overlooking the medieval castle.
