DSC_0497 Peter Iredale - a photo on Flickriver

            On October 25, 1906, under pressure from a Northwest squall, the Peter Iredale ran aground on the Clatsop Spit as it was sailing toward the mouth of the Columbia River.  Attempts were made to free her, but with weeks of adverse weather, she became embedded in the sand and was abandoned where she had come to rest. There was no loss of life.

The ship was 287 feet (87 meters) in length.  30 feet wide, 23 feet deep. The ship had 4 masts.
