The Mountains Are Calling - a photo on Flickriver

Great Smoky Mountains National Park, looking North from Clingman's Dome into Tennessee.

If you find yourself anywhere near Tennessee or North Carolina, the Great Smoky Mountains are calling, and you must go. This magnificent National Park is a treasure; little wonder that it's the most-visited in the entire National Park System, even more than Yosemite or Yellowstone.

And although there are dozens of wonderful waterfalls and lovely trails, herds of elk and rustic historic settlements to see, it's Clingman's Dome for both sunrise and sunset you must do above all else. I've only been here once, in late September 2021, and just from this location alone I have dozens of incredible photos to show...and this one isn't even the best. Saving that shot for later.

The Smokies are named after the fascinating cloud formations that often rise and fall, form quickly and then disappear, in relatively short periods of time. Here with this view just prior to sunrise, low lying clouds have formed a visual river in the valley before you.

Manual settings, tripod, no filter, Capture One Pro for post-processing.
