The Polar Express arrives - a photo on Flickriver

            The crew from the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Co. & Museum puts on a smoke and steam show for waiting patrons as they bring their 7-car Polar Express train to the boarding platform at Portland, Maine's Ocean Gateway Terminal, just 2 days before Christmas in 2012.   The duty locomotive this season is the former Monson Railroad #4, a 20-ton Vulcan Forney type, built in 1918.  Although she looks like the twin of Monson #3, which is also in the MNGRR Collection, she is just a bit larger and there are some other, minor differences.  When this image was captured in 2012, this engine still had a couple of years left on her FRA Form 4.  She was finally sidelined in late 2014 and has not operated since.  The railroad folks have indicated that she will need a new boiler.  The Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Co. & Museum is an FRA-regulated railroad, primarily because they cross a couple of public streets.
