LANCASTER BOMBER FLIES OVER MOVING STEAM TRAIN!

            Sheer luck here! 

I captured steam loco 2857 and its train crossing Victoria Bridge as a Lancaster Bomber flew low-level over the bridge at exactly the same time. 

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight along the course of the Severn Valley Railway was part of the Queen's Platinum Jubillee celebrations on June 3rd 2022. 

No Photoshop or trickery here. This photo is straight from the camera with just minor adjustments for sharpness and exposure. 

Unfortunately, the sun had just taken a dip behind a cloud and the view of the bridge was hazy, and the train is a little soft. But you can't have everything. 

This was a truly historic moment in the railway's history and I was thriilled to see it. Especially as my dad was a rear gunner in 1943/44 and survived 76 operational sorties in bombers. 

I have seen two other images of this moment. One from a photographer with a drone near the viaduct. And another taken from the footplate of the locomotive. 

The train was running late. It was a normal passenger service and nothing was co-ordinated. It wasn't a Photo Opportunity or charter. The chances of the aircraft and locomotive meeting so precisely at this spot - the most iconic location on the line - must surely have been millions to one. The following two flypasts were cancelled due to weather conditions.
