Lowland rainforest - Solomon Islands

            Solomon Islands are part of the East Melanesian Islands biodiversity hotspot and support a large array of plants and animals with very high levels of endemism. 

The archipelago is geographically complex with six major islands and over 900 smaller islands of varying age and geology. Most of them were originally covered by rainforests (which look like those found in neighbouring New Guinea) but commercial logging and a fast rate of population growth threaten the land and marine ecosystems.
