Sainte-Marie-sur-Mer est une ancienne commune française, située dans le département de la Loire-Atlantique et la région Pays de la Loire. Rattachée en 1973 à la commune voisine de Pornic, elle n’est plus aujourd’hui qu’une simple subdivision de cette dernière depuis le 1er juillet 2007.

L’ancienne commune fait partie de la Bretagne historique, dans le pays traditionnel du pays de Retz et dans le pays historique du Pays Nantais.

Les habitants de Sainte-Marie-sur-Mer sont appelés les Sanmaritains et les Sanmaritaines.
Pendant un temps, durant la Première République, Sainte-Marie-sur-Mer porta le nom de Roche-Peltier.

La Seconde Guerre mondiale se prolongea à Sainte-Marie-sur-Mer et ses voisines de l'estuaire durant 9 mois de plus (d'août 1944 au 11 mai 1945) que dans le reste de la France : c'est l'épisode connu sous le nom de Poche de Saint-Nazaire.

Sainte-Marie-sur-Mer is a former commune in the Pays de Retz, situated in the Loire-Atlantique département and in the French région of Pays de la Loire. From 1973, it was absorbed by the neighbouring commune of Pornic and from July 1, 2007 it became a subdivision of this commune.

The commune forms a part of Brittany, in the traditional county of Retz and in the historical Pays Nantais.

The inhabitants of Sainte-Marie are known as the Sanmaritains and Sanmaritaines.
At one time, during the French First Republic, Sainte-Marie was known as Roche-Peltier.
