Lazy Days of Indian Summer - a photo on Flickriver

            A truly magnificent weekend in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of northern California. The weather was warm and perfect, Not much color change yet, but the sage and grasses are all turning that wonderful golden hue that ushers in the cold dark days of Winter.

We signed up for a wonderful outing, THE LOST SIERRA RANCH TOUR, which featured tours of working cattle ranches in the high Sierra Valley, about an hour north of Reno and Lake Tahoe. There were tours of ranches, and at each venue were vendors of woodworking, boat builders, jewelry makers, potters, knitters and quilters. All wonderful country stuff.

Food was good, company was great, and as you will see in this next group of pics, some very scenic country.

In the Sierra Valley, they have begun a nice tradition... the adornment of old barns with what they call BARN QUILTS. Painted symbols under the gable ends, similar to the centuries old tradition in Pennsylvania Dutch Country of adorning their old barns with hex signs, to ward off evil spirits.
