Liège (BE) Station - a photo on Flickriver

            La gare de Liège-Guillemins est la principale gare ferroviaire de la ville de Liège en Belgique. Elle est située au pied de la colline de Cointe, à l'origine à l'emplacement de l'ancien couvent des Guillemites en référence aux religieux de l’ordre de Saint-Guillaume. Le quartier porte ce nom usuellement, puis celui de quartier des Guillemins. Le nom de la gare de Liège-Guillemins est aujourd'hui la seule trace de ce passé.

La gare de Liège-Guillemins est un carrefour important du réseau ferroviaire belge. En 2006, il s'agissait de la troisième gare de la Région wallonne en nombre de voyageurs, qui accueillait environ 16 000 voyageurs chaque jour1,2. Elle est également gare TGV internationale, en accueillant l'ICE allemand et le Thalys.

C'est un carrefour multimodal majeur de la ville principautaire qui met en relation train à grande vitesse, train IC, bus, liaison avec l'autoroute, taxi, navette vers l'aéroport et bientôt une ligne de tramway3.

Une nouvelle gare, œuvre de l'architecte espagnol Santiago Calatrava Valls, a été inaugurée le 18 septembre 2009 après une dizaine d'années de travaux4. Son esthétique est généralement considérée comme une réussite, la gare attire à Liège de nombreux touristes et est aujourd'hui un emblème de la ville et le monument liégeois le plus photographié. Elle est considérée comme l'une des plus belles gares du monde5d'après CNN et plusieurs blogs.

The station is used by 15,000[1] people every day which makes it the eleventh busiest station in Belgium and the third in Wallonia.
