Opel 10/40 PS Pullman Limousine 1928

Deze Opel is verkocht tijdens de Amsterdamse RAI die gehouden werd in januari 1928. De koper was een handelaar in kaas en woonde in de provincie Utrecht. De Opel kreeg het provinciale nummer L-4332.
De familie gebruikte de auto veel, ook voor vakanties naar Luxemburg. Gedurende de oorlogsjaren is de auto verstopt geweest en na de oorlog werd de auto overgenomen door de schoonzoon, dhr M.M. Schepman, die een tandartspraktijk had in Zwartsluis en Genemuiden. Op 27 maart 1953 is het kenteken afgegeven NX-14-22 ter vervanging van het Provinciale kenteken. Op dit kenteken staat het woonadres, Kerkstraat 45 in Zwartsluis. Minimaal tweemaal per week reed dhr Schepman naar Genemuiden voor zijn praktijk en nam daarbij de veerpont over het Zwarte Water.

Op een zeker moment is de Opel ingeruild voor moderner vervoer. Wat er precies met de auto is gebeurd is niet zeker, maar wel zeker is dat de gebroeders De Koning uit Oud-Beijerland de Opel hebben gekocht voor hun verzameling klassieke automobielen. Er is een kenteken bekend op naam van dhr De Koning, afgegeven op 20-02-1958. De gebroeders De Koning waren eigenaar van de KONI schokdemperfabriek en hadden een uitgebreide verzameling bijzondere automobielen.
Na het overlijden van deze heren werd de verzameling verkocht en de Opel kwam terecht bij de plaatselijke Mercedes-dealer garage Wust. De Opel werd opgeslagen in het voormalige veilinggebouw in het centrum van Oud-Beijerland en was nog steeds in originele staat.

In het voorjaar van 1987 is er contact ontstaan tussen de familie Wust en de heer Bos uit Strijen. De koop werd gesloten en de Opel verhuisde naar Strijen op 21 juli 1987, waar werd begonnen aan een totale restauratie.
Tijdens de restauratie werd er een veerpontkaartje gevonden van het veer bij Genemuiden, onder de treeplank. Ook bracht dhr Wust het kenteken van de auto met daarop de toenmalige eigenaar, MM Schepman in Zwartsluis.

In 1987 is er gezocht naar het adres Kerkstraat 45 in Zwartsluis, dit bleek niet meer te bestaan. Navraag bij lokale mensen gaf aan dat er een reconstructie van de dorpskern was geweest en dat er een ander nummering was ontstaan. Het woonhuis bestond wel maar dan onder een ander adres. Men wist ook van de tandarts die daar woonde en van de zeer oude auto waar hij altijd mee reed. In de bewuste woning bleek dhr P. Hein te wonen en hij wist vrijwel niets van de geschiedenis af. Wel gaf hij aan dat de tandartspraktijk nog aanwezig was in het dorp. Vervolgens is er bij de tandartspraktijk weer om info gevraagd en de tandarts bleek de praktijk te hebben overgenomen van dhr Schepman die inmiddels was verhuisd naar Vlissingen. Adres en telefoon nummer waren bekend.

Er is contact opgenomen met dhr Schepman en deze is samen met zijn vrouw bij de Opel wezen kijken gedurende de restauratie. Zijn vrouw wist nog veel te vertellen van de tijd dat haar vader de Opel in bezit had in de jaren dertig.
Inmiddels is de restauratie alweer 30 jaar geleden en is de Opel gebruikt voor meetings met oldtimers en Opel clubbijeenkomsten. Sinds ca 2010 is er niet veel gebruik van gemaakt vanwege de hoge leeftijd van de eigenaar en sinds oktober 2018 is de Opel volledig nagekeken en weer in goede conditie om te worden gebruikt.

This Opel was sold during the Amsterdam RAI carshow which was held in January 1928. The buyer was a cheese merchant and lived in the province of Utrecht. The Opel received the provincial number L-4332. The family used the car a lot, also for holidays to Luxembourg. During the war the car was hidden and after the war the car was taken over by the son-in-law, Mr. M.M. Schepman, who had a dentist practice in Zwartsluis and Genemuiden. On March 27, 1953 the registration number was issued NX-14-22 to replace the provincial license plate. The residential address, Kerkstraat 45 in Zwartsluis, is shown on the registration papers. At least twice a week, Mr. Schepman drove to Genemuiden for his practice, taking the ferry over the “Zwarte Water”. At a certain moment the Opel has been traded for more modern transport. What exactly happened to the car is not certain but it’s clear that the brothers “de Koning” from Oud-Beijerland have bought the Opel for their collection of classic cars. There is a license paper in the name of Mr. de Koning, issued on 20-02-1958. The Koning brothers owned the KONI shock absorber factory and had an extensive collection of special automobiles. After the death of these two collectors the collection was sold and the Opel ended up at the local Mercedes dealer “garage Wust”. The Opel was stored in the former auction building in the centre of Oud-Beijerland and was still in its original state.

In the spring of 1987, contact was established between the Wust family and Mr Bos from Strijen. The sale was closed and the Opel moved to Strijen on July 21, 1987, where a total restoration was started. During the restoration a ferry ticket was found under the footboard from the ferry at Genemuiden. Mr. Wust also brought the license papers of the car with the former owner, MM Schepman in Zwartsluis.
In 1987, when the address Kerkstraat 45 in Zwartsluis was searched for, this no longer appeared to exist. Inquiring with local people indicated that there had been a reconstruction of the village centre and that there had been a change in the numbering. The house existed but then under a different address. One person also knew of the dentist who lived there and of the very old car he always drove. In the house in question Mr. P. Hein appeared to live and he knew almost nothing about the history, but he indicated that the dental practice was still present in the village. Subsequently, information was requested at the dental practice and the dentist appeared to have taken over the practice of Mr. Schepman, who had meanwhile moved to Vlissingen. Address and telephone number were exchanged. Mr. Schepman was contacted and he, along with his wife, came over to have a look at the Opel during the restoration. His wife knew a lot about the time that her father owned the Opel in the thirties.
Meanwhile, the restoration is already 30 years ago and the Opel is used for meetings with old-timers and Opel club meetings. Since about 2010, not much use has been made because of the owner’s age and since October 2018 the Opel has been completely checked and is now again in good condition and ready to be used.
