LINΞΛS 186 292-9 @ Kortenberg 🇧🇪

Waar de stakingsgolf in Frankrijk voor de ene trein een vloek is wegens meermaals afgeschaft, is dat voor de andere trein een ware zegen - of toch voor de spotters van de bewuste trein ;-)

Door de stakingen in Frankrijk reed de VSOE niet minder dan drie donderdagen na elkaar door België! Op de eerste donderdag, 9 maart, had ik jammer genoeg geen tijd maar op donderdag 16 maart stond ik in het station van Thurn en Taxis paraat voor de doortocht van de trein vanuit Amsterdam naar Brussel-Zuid. Later op de dag kon ik de trein ook nog eens in Brussel-Noord op foto zetten tijdens de rit naar Aachen en verder naar Venetië.

Maar dé verrassing kwam wel op woensdag 22 maart toen het bericht de ronde deed dat de VSOE ook op donderdag 23 maart nog eens vanuit Aachen naar Brussel zou rijden.

En per toeval had ik die donderdag deliberaties op school en waren die gepland tussen 8u en 9u. Ik had die voormiddag dan ook anders dan andere donderdagen (normaal geef ik les tussen 8u45 en 12u) de tijd om de VSOE in het landschap op foto te zetten. Ik trok dan ook naar Kortenberg waar er een flauwe bocht ligt in lijn 36 en 36N. Ideaal dus om deze fraaie trein in volle glorie te kunnen spotten.

Met de regelmaat van de klok zie je op dit plekje ook vliegtuigen de landing inzetten naar de nationale luchthaven van Zaventem en ja hoor, de Boeing van Icelandair kwam op het ideale moment!

The VSOE (Venice Simplon Orient Express) is seen in Kortenberg (Belgium) on its way from Venice to Brussels. The train had been diverted via Aachen (Germany) due to strikes in France. It offered a great opportunity to photograph this beautiful train in the gentle curve in Kortenberg, near Brussels airport (witness the airplane of Icelandair descending to the runway)
