After having migrated elsewhere over the summer, the owls have returned to the Bay Area once again.  Several of the places where they've chosen to reside during this stage of their migration are now protected from dogs and people by fences and stone ramparts -- just erected over the course of the summer. 

Before that there were make-shift barriers -- like those you might see around an accident-scene -- with bright orange cloth or tape.  But the garish colors are gone now.  Whether the owls appreciate the aesthetics of the new barriers or not is anybody's guess.  But at least the birds haven't been scared off by the changes.  The new fences and walls are much more pleasing to human eyes -- and look sturdier and more durable.
