Whitchester Diversion - a photo on Flickriver

            Engineering works north of Newcastle on the East Coast Mainline meant trains were diverted along the Tyne Valley line over the weekend. LNER Azuma Class 800 No. 800112 emerges from the short tunnel at Whitchester between Haltwhistle and Bardon Mill with diverted 1E19, the 09:52 Aberdeen – London Kings Cross service on 24th September 2022.

The siding to the left is the long disused Melkridge Sidings, once the coal loading point for Plenmeller open-cast mine which had a relatively short life, opening in 1991 and closing in 2000.
