Mosi-oa-Tunya - a photo on Flickriver

Mosi-oa-Tunya

            "Donnernder Rauch". Dieser Wasserfall wurde angeblich von Livingstone, einem britischen Reisenden entdeckt. Dabei musste er gar nicht entdeckt werden. Die Stämme der Region kannten ihn schon längst. Livingstone hätte nur fragen müssen, was es da gibt und wie es heißt. Er ignorierte die Kultur der lokalen Afrikaner und gab dem Wasserfall den Namen "Victoria-Falls" (nach seiner britischen Königin). Den Namen schreiben viele heute noch in ihre Weltkarten. Mosi-oa-Tunya ("donnernder Rauch") ist wohl der schönere Name. Er würdigt das Naturschauspiel mehr als die britische Umbenennung.
