Back to the area of Ecclesfield again with the promise of the afternoon's RHTT back from the north, being led by the only class 37, of the 5 being used, I hadn't managed to get a shot of so far, 37407, 'Blackpool Tower'. An afternoon of changeable weather and now late on for good light the south-bound RHTT on M/W/F, passing through here at around 3pm, fortunately however, the rain was further off behind the camera and with the skies darkening, this Northern class 150, 'looking a bit classic now?', rumbled south on the 1Y21, Leeds via Sheffield Midland to Nottingham service. The sky contrast was so good that a double rainbow had formed the main refraction taking place to the right of the unit in the now leaf denuded trees, with a second, lower contrast bow sat over the top of 150270, Similar spectacular light, though this time with no rain, was seen on November 16th, 5 years ago, when the RHTT season was then in the charge of DRS class 20s, before the time of unreliable running, see-

which also describes the scenery in the area before the modernisation of the tracks which took place in the 1980s and saw all the old infra-structure finally removed. The bank just to the right of the DMU marks the spot where a line, just beyond the bank, went off northwards to the large Smithywood coking plant which was situated between the Midland lines here and, over to the east about 300m, the GCR's line to Barnsley, the plant occupying just about all the space northwards, in between the two lines. In the distance on the left, Barnsley's down line signal, BY1007, is showing green, though the next service to Leeds isn't due to pass for another 15 minutes, after the RHTT has come and gone...
