The old fishing boat - a photo on Flickriver

            As early as I can remember, the late 60s, this steel fishing boat already lay rotting on the Lake Erie beach where I grew up. It attracted all the neighbourhood children, but especially my cousins Bill, Scott, and Jennifer Mooney, who visited us most weekends, and whose father sailed in regattas on the lake. In those days the boat road atop the sand so we could easily run around the solid hull and pretend to be pirates. It did not even have a willow sapling growing inside, let alone this storm-shattered remnant. I haven't walked on the beach since 2012, but from Google Maps satellite view I see the boat continues riding the high sands.
