Picu Urriellu o Naranjo de Bulnes - a photo on Flickriver

            El Picu Urriellu o Naranjo de Bulnes es un pico calcáreo de origen paleozoico situado en el Macizo Central de los Picos de Europa, en Asturias (España). La denominación original de “Picu Urriellu”, deriva de la raíz "Ur", de origen prerromano, que hace referencia a una elevación de terreno. De esta misma raíz derivan otros muchos topónimos diseminados por la geografía asturiana (Urru, Orru, Urriel, Urrieles, Urra, Urriellu). Administrativamente, el Naranjo de Bulnes se encuentra situado en el concejo asturiano de Cabrales y dentro del Parque nacional de los Picos de Europa.
La primera referencia escrita al “Pico Urriellu” como “Naranjo de Bulnes” se debe al ingeniero y geólogo alemán Guillermo Schulz, que en 1855 editó el primer mapa topográfico y geológico de Asturias. En todo caso, el origen de esta denominación no está claro, dado que los habitantes de la zona históricamente siempre se refirieron al Naranjo como “Picu Urriellu”, no siendo la denominación ni popular ni la tradicional. De hecho en los bocetos que se conservan de dicho mapa se puede ver que en principio en principio, se escribe correctamente "Urriellu", para posteriormente tachar las letras finales dejándolo en "Urriel", volviendo finalmente a "Los Urrieles" y agregando "Naranjo de Bulnes".
