This has been a Merchant’s house, Almshouse and hospital during its long history.
The Browne family endowed Stamford School years ago, giving the name the Stamford Endowed Schools.

The individual schools (previously Stamford School for boys, Stamford High School for girls and Stamford Junior School) all used the ‘Spede Byrd’ sitting on a wool sack logo of the family as their logo as well.
