The tree is not to be confused with the flower of the same name. This is Albizia julibrissin, also called mimosa tree or silk tree. I've always known the name as mimosa. There are no petals, only stamens displayed in the blooms. The leaves are sensitive to touch, darkness and rain and curl up during those conditions. They are quite tropical in appearance, giving a colorful and textural difference in a temperate zone. To have a splash of the exotic in one's yard is to have a focal point for pleasant winter memories. Taken at my former home in Charlotte Court House, Virginia. Images 7 and 8 show a common bug, whose name I don't know.
