Natural tinsel on frosty plant - a photo on Flickriver

This is what you get when there is a very cold night with freezing fog: natural tinsel on the stems of plants. Some of the spikes were nearly an inch long.

Taken on my way in to work: I kicked myself for not having brought a decent camera, relying instead on my old S5700 that I keep in the car 'just in case'.

Ice formed like this is known as "soft rime" and there's information about it on Wikipedia here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soft_rime .
