Wasserburg Alt Barenaue - a photo on Flickriver

            Die Wasserburg Alt Barenaue ist eine Wasserburg in Kalkriese in der Gemeinde Bramsche im Landkreis Osnabrück in Niedersachsen. Die Niederungsburg befindet sich auf einer Sandinsel des Großen Moors am Fuße des Kalkrieser Bergs.

Sie wurde im 13. Jahrhundert von den Herren von Bar erbaut. Erste urkundliche Erwähnungen finden sich aus den Jahren 1305 und 1341 („castro dicto tor bernowe“). Die Besitzer zogen etwa um 1862 ins neu errichtete Schloss Neu Barenaue um.

Zu den älteren Gebäuden zählt das Torgebäude aus dem Jahre 1689 mit achteckigem Fachwerkturm im oberen Teil. Hervorzuheben sind ferner die Bibliothek und die alte Gerichtslinde. Die Anlage mit einem Wohngebäude und Ställen ist jedoch nur von außen zu besichtigen.
