RD22271. 484 002 at St John's Road. - a photo on Flickriver

RD22271. The 1938 London Transport 1938 Tube Stock that ended its days on the Isle of Wight was replaced by ex London Transport D78 Stock that has been extensively refurbished and modernised by a company called Vivarail that is re-purposing the D78 stock trains for further use using diesel, electric or battery power.

The D78s used on the Isle of Wight are electric third rail units like the earlier pre ‘36 and 1938 stock; they are now classified as Class 484 by South Western Railway that runs the Island Line.

This shot shows 484002 during a test and driver training run at Ryde St. John’s Road a month before they entered daily passenger service.
