RD11133. Waterloo & City Line. - a photo on Flickriver

RD11133. The Waterloo & City Line of London Underground, otherwise known as 'The Drain'. It was opened in 1898 to connect London's Waterloo Station with The City at Bank and was a subsidiary of the London & South Western Railway. It later became part of the Southern Railway and, subsequently, the Southern Region of British Railways.

In 1994, however, it was transferred to London Transport, later London Underground. At just under 1½ miles in length, it is the shortest tube railway in London and the journey from end to end takes a mere four minutes.

The current rolling stock is almost the same as the London Underground Central Line 1992 Stock, but one of the Southern Railway Driving Motors of 1940 vintage can still be seen; it is at the London Transport Museum Depot at Acton :
