The Post Mill of Kuressaare Castle - a photo on Flickriver

            On old maps we can see that in the second half of the 17th century there was a windmill located on the Western bastion, at that time named as the Mill bastion (Mühlen Bastion). It was destroyed in April 1711 during the Great Northen War. In 1787 a local merchant built a new windmill on the cannon tower walls but it was destroyed by a fire in November 1795. In 2019 a reconstructed and fully functional mill was built in the same place. It was built by Hiiumaa windmill builders and sponsored by Altia Estonia who has the Saaremaa Windmill as logo on one of its brands, the Saaremaa vodka.
