The Queen of Robbers - _TNY_7635 - a photo on Flickriver

This absolutely huge (~40mm!) robber fly which should be one of the Promachus species (ID suggestions most welcome!) landed on the table outside our bungalow at Twin Bay Resort in Koh Lanta, Thailand.

I was limited to just a single exposure as the flash scared it off, but the level of detail in this shot pleases me greatly.

This lady (in black stockings no less!) is large enough to take down pretty much any other insect there except perhaps some large dragonflies.
