2022 - Mexico City - 25 - Chapultepec Park - Fuente de las Ranas (Fountain of the Frogs)

            Fuente de las Ranas (Fountain of the Frogs) in Chapultepec park  is an exact replica of a fountain of the same name in María Luisa Park, Seville, Spain

The fountainIt was made in 1920 by the Montealbán House of Ceramics, Seville

When Spanish lawyer Miguel Alessio Robles was named  Mexicangovernment minister in 1921, he ordered the fountain made. He wanted to bring to Mexico City a piece of his home country.

The fountain was initially  installed at the park entrance but was moved towards the back of section one near the park zoo.    No date when that happened.

The fountain is covered in  Sevillian tiles. Surrounding the outer edge is a series of eight rotund golden painted frogs. 

The frogs open mouths spray water towards the bronze duck and tortoise in the centre of the fountain. 

The duck sits atop the tortoise  shooting water from its mouth. 

The playful fountain is another of  the gems that make wandering the Chapultepec pathways a treat.
