2020 - Vancouver - Gastown - COVID-19 - at the Steam Clock

            One of Gastown better known tourist attractions is the steam clock.  Typically the clock is surrounded by tourist photographers clicking away at the quarter hours when the clock lets off steam driven whistles..

With COVID-19, the streets of Gastown are deserted, businesses closed and tourists nowhere to be found.

ABOUT THE CLOCK:
Underneath the streets runs 
a series of steam pipes connected to a generating plant at Georgia and Beatty Streets. The system provides heat to most of the downtown core buildings, and provides steam for the whistles of the Gastown steam clock.

The clock was built in 1977 by horologist Raymond Saunders and metalwork specialist Doug Smith.
