2019 - Cambodia - Siem Reap - Wat Bo Pagoda

            Our Angkor temple tours are done.  We had the afternonto explore central Siem Reap on our own.  So we did.

After some wandering around we hired a tuk-tuk for a 1 hour tour - $5 USD.  The trip lasted 1 hour and thirty minutes.  We tipped him well.

We let the driver decide where to go - he drove us to three city centre pagodas and a Cambodia-Vietnam war memorial.

The first stop was Wat Bo Pagoda.  The pagoda has a busy stupa garden.

Wat Bo Pagoda was built in the 18th century and is therefore one of the oldest pagodas in Siem Reap town.

Wat Bo has its own radio station and Buddhist high school where the monks complete their education.

ABOUT CAMBODIAN STUPA
The stupa’s profile is extremely varied, depending on the epoch and country, but it is always recognizable, as if it has conserved within itself, through all its transformations, something permanent which characterizes it.  The structural stupa architectures have a tendency towards elongation and height.

Cambodian architecture influences the Southeast Asian stupa.
